Children will create a diagram of how light travels based on the model they have seen and videos before labelling an eye to describe how we are able to see from the travelling of light into the eye. The lesson the ends with a quick mini-quiz.

An introductory lesson to light in Year 6. Initially, children will spend time recapping what they can remember from the previous time they studied light before then moving on to considering what light is and what dark is. Children will then think about different light sources and grouping these as well as thinking about why mirrors and the moon aren’t light sources. This will then move on to considering opaque, transparent and translucent and why we get shadows before finishing with a quick mini-quiz.

A fully resourced lesson that focuses on stages of development for humans. Included is a lesson presentation with questions to get children thinking before identifying the different stages of development. There is then a three-way differentiated activity to apply what they have learnt.

A lesson/s that requires children to write an information text about the Sun, Moon or Earth. Included is a lesson presentation, an example text to show them what it looks like and some support sheets including a self-assessment grid and fact files. If you have iPads available or other technology they could then also use these to support fact finding.
